The Great Nocturnal Happening is celebrated today – here are some event tips!

8.8.2024

The Great Nocturnal Happening is here once again! The day is filled with different kinds of events and there is certainly something for everyone to experience. Here are some event tips.

The magic of dance

The Ratina area is the cradle of dance on the Nocturnal Happening.

Shopping Center Ratina’s Event Square is taken over by dance association Swing Team ry, which showcases its rock’n’swing dances. After rocking and swinging, it’s time for a capoeira show. Capoeira is a playful Brazilian martial art, in which movement and music create an impressive performance. And if you are more interested in capoeira, you should visit Ratinanlinnanpuisto, where Pirkan Berimbão ry and Capoeira Força Natural organize an open Capoeira Roda, which is a great chance for anyone to explore the secrets of the sport.

The Ratina Olympic Square will feature the Way of Elements Street Dance show, where the rhythm is set by a DJ. The audience has an opportunity to come and try the moves in the company of professionals. The evening of Olympic Square ends with salsa, as Nocturnal Happening Salsa will be danced to the rhythm of Tampere Salsa Association, Azúcar.

At Koskikeskus, dance association Hurmio will share information about the club’s activities and showcase samples of their dance styles. After that, it’s time for open social dancing!

Much to see and experience

The Nocturnal Happening is traditionally filled with all kinds of programs worth seeing and experiencing.

The Finnish Labour Museum Werstas and Museum Milavida will organize all kinds of program during the day. In Stockmann’s canopy, Tampere Choir Singers will entertain the audience with their tunes with three performances. The concerts will feature both traditional and more recent choral music. The most burning event of the Nocturnal happening is performed by fire show group Flamma, who will light up the evening with breathtaking fire art.

Flamma

If instead of culture and flames you’re in need of fluffy company, Pirkanmaa Animal Welfare association PAW’s traditional dog walking is your place to be. You can join with or without paws. It’s also possible to choose between 2km and 4km walks.

And if you see stars at the end of the day…

...it’s a good idea to end the Nocturnal Happening by admiring the starry sky, as Tampere Ursa’s traditional August Star Night opens the autumn season of star shows at Kauppi Observatory. In the case of cloudy weather, there will be interesting program at the observatory for all astronomy enthusiasts or those interested in the hobby.

And that’s not all, as there’s plenty of more to experience. Check out the full programme of the Great Nocturnal Happening here.
