Programme Tent offers warm ambiance combining poetry, music and theatre

For over 20 years the Programme Tent, set at the Tampere Central Square, has gathered the Festival audience to be entertained by various Finnish actors and musicians. The language of the performances is Finnish, but the atmosphere is enjoyable for all.
Tuesday, 8 August at 19:00 – RAKKAUDEN KAIVO (THE WELL OF LOVE)
This year composer Kaj Chydenius performs with young actor-singers Minja Koski and Jussi-Pekka Parviainen. The nature themed concert presents poetry by Samuli Kustaa Berg, Kaarlo Sarkia and Jukka Siironen.
Tuesday, 8 August at 22:00 – KASVONSA MENETTÄNYT MIES (THE MAN WHO LOST HIS FACE)
Due to severe simultaneous attack of a virus and bacteria, journalist Kimmo Oksanen's facial skin was badly damaged. He wrote a book about his ordeals under title "The Man Who Lost his Face". Now actor Puntti Valtonen and musician Safka Pekkonen take his story on the stage. With director Kari Paukkunen these fellows have created a warm-hearted and hopeful play based on the book.
Wednesday, 9 August at 19:00 – ÄLÄ JÄTÄ SINUA YKSIN (DON’T LEAVE YOURSELF ALONE)
Actor and singer Ritva Oksanen interprets and musician Pedro Hietanen accompanies songs and poems with themes such as self-acceptance, friendship and taking others into account. Oksanen’s inspiration stirs from Aino Suhola’s and Eva Kleman’s texts. The performance is directed by Osku Heiskanen.
Wednesday, 9 August at 22:00 – TUOMARI NURMIO
"Dumarillumarei" is a studio album by famous Finnish rock musician Tuomari Nurmio, expert of the Helsinki slang. His new music is an innovative mixture of blues, folk, soul, rap and Finnish "humppa". Miikka Paatelainen (guitar), Mitja Tuurala (bass) and Markku Hillilä (drums) meet up on stage with the brass section consisting of Antti Hynninen (saxophone), Juho Viljanen (trombone and tuba) and Janne Toivonen (trumpet).
Thursday, 10 August at 16:00 – VIIMEISESTÄ ILLASTA (ABOUT LAST NIGHT)
The Night of Great Nocturnal Happening all around the city starts on Thursday with the uncrowned king of Finnish entertainment music, Eino Grön! His touching voice will be accompanied by Marian Petrescu’s magical piano playing. Music ranging from swing to tango will be heard at the concert.
Thursday 10 August at 18:00 – SNAP – LEIPÄÄ JA SIRKUSHUVEJA (SNAP – BREAD AND CIRCUSES)
Riskiryhmä’s hilarious improvisation show "Snap" comments the hottest topics and social media phenomena on the stage with the help of the audience. The improvisation group consists of Elina Aalto, Ushma Karnani and Rosanna Kemppi with musician Tuomas Hautala. The show is directed by Hilkka-Liisa Iivanainen. Suggestions for topics can be sent with hashtag #snapteatterikesa in Facebook or Instagram in August.
Friday, 11 August at 19:00 – OMAA JA LAINATTUA (SOME OWN, SOME BORROWED)
Charismatic actor and singer Jonna Järnefelt interprets songs both in Finnish and in Swedish with Jussi Tuurna's band. Some of the lyrics are her own and some are borrowed from Bengt Ahlfors and Kurt Weil, among others. The songs are composed by various musicians – such as Laura Sippola, Jukka Leppilampi and Eeva Kontu.
Friday, 11 August at 22:00 – WERNER BROS.
Finnish combo of skiffle-entertainment, Werner Bros. takes the stage on Friday evening. The 30th anniversary show by the Tuukkanen brothers draws in from the best national and international entertainment tradition alongside of witty humor.
Saturday, 12 August at 18:00 & 22:00 – TÄMÄN VUOSITUHANNEN NÄYTTÄMÖMUSIIKKIA (FINNISH THEATRE MUSIC OF THE 21ST CENTURY)
Composer-musicians Eeva Kontu, Anna-Mari Kähärä and Jussi Tuurna present with their band a compilation of songs from various Finnish musicals such as Homo!, Häräntappoase and Viita 1949. The soloists of the evening are distinguished actors and singers including Maria Ylipää, Janne Marja-aho, Sanna Majuri and Tiina Weckström.
