Powerful Performances Attracted Viewers in 2017

The ratings of the Festival’s Main Programme met the viewer demands with 7 948 viewers. 20 shows were completely sold out. The occupancy rates were measured at 78,4 %. Turku City Theatre’s Tom of Finland gathered 1 490 viewers, Arctic Hysteria by The Finnish National Theatre 757 viewers and Casanova, My Wife by Kuopion kaupunginteatteri and Tanssiteatteri Minimi 601 viewers – they were the most popular Finnish performances. Two of the international performances were sold out: Fruits of Labor by the Belgian Miet Warlop and People Respect Me Now by the Swedish Lumor Theatre.
– I’m very grateful that the performances effected people so much and spoke to them on such a wide range of emotions. We have got feedback, that the programme was bold and powerful, states executive director Hanna Rosendahl.
The Programme Tent presented ten performances and its total number of attendees was 2 002. Performances by Kaj Chydenius, Ritva Oksanen and Pedro Hietanen, Werner Bros, Tuomari Nurmio and Kontu-Kähärä-Tuurna were all sold out.
OFF Tampere gathered together 36 performing groups, 39 performances and 104 shows. The viewers of OFF Tampere’s performances, including Cirkus Ruska Festival, will rise over 14 000.
The Club Festival Encorebaana, organized in co-operation with the hotel chain Sokos Hotels and the cooperative Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa, gathered 1 200 viewers in total to seven different restaurants. This year’s most popular of these free performances were the improvisation-theatre Snorkkeli’s performance and band Pintandwefall.
In the Great Nocturnal Happening on 10th of August there were 90 organizers. There were 211 happenings, and most of them (191) were free. The attendance was more than 28 000. The happenings at Tullikamarinaukio, Pakkanuoneen aukio and Hämeenpuisto gathered thousands of visitors.
At the Tampere Theatre Festival there were in total almost 300 happenings and performances free of charge.
The largest professional theatre festival in the Nordic countries celebrates its 50th anniversary next year between 6th–12th of August. The Main Programme will be compiled by the new artistic group: Miko Jaakkola, Hilkka-Liisa Iivanainen and Aleksis Meaney. Hanna Rosendahl, the executive director of Tampere Theatre Festival, will take part in the selection process.
The exact visitor figures and total number of visitors will be announced at the beginning of September.
Mini Thetre Festival in Mänttä in November
Between 17th–19th of November 2017, Tampere Theatre Festival organizes together with Serlachius Museums Mini Theatre Festival in Mänttä happening in Mänttä-Vilppula. The happening is organized this year for the first time, and its entire programme will be published at the end of August. The ticket sale will start at the same time in Serlachius Museums.
