Cancellation of the Tampere Theatre Festival 2020
6.5.2020
Due to the situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the board of directors has been obliged to take decision on the cancellation of this year’s festival. The next edition of the Tampere Theatre Festival is scheduled for 2 – 8 August 2021.
”Decision on cancellation was very hard, but it was the only feasible option for our festival during the current circumstances”, states Hanna Rosendahl, the executive director of the Tampere Theatre Festival.
”The emphasis has to be on health and safety of all involved. With this decision we can also guarantee the continuity of the festival in the future. Postponing is not an option for us, as the theatres are starting their new seasons in the Autumn.”
”We have been able to negotiate the international perormances for next year. The aim is to reschedule the planned performances of the Programme Tent as well. Unfortunately the domestic list cannot be moved as such for 2021, and thus we publish the chosen performances to celebrate their makers, along with the foreword by our artistic team. We wish strength for all to carry on during these challenging times, and trust that we can get together soon, also for our theatre festival next year.”

The 52nd edition of the Tampere Theatre Festival was to be organized between 3 – 8 August 2020, and the publication of the programme was planned for the end of May 2020.
The aim is to publish some of the international guests for 2021 already this year. Next festival takes place between 2 – 8 August 2021.
