Death in Venice
OULU THEATRE & CARL KNIF COMPANY
Based on the novella by Thomas Mann
Adapted from Michael Baran's dramatization by Jukka Heinänen & Carl Knif
Directed and choreographed by Carl Knif
Oulu Theatre and the internationally acclaimed Carl Knif Company take on Thomas Mann’s classic novella in their first joint production.
This engaging mix of visuality and movement depicts an aging writer’s last attempt to find a new direction in his life and work. Falling for a local youth in Venice, the writer experiences a flood of suppressed emotions and forbidden desires which leads to a spiral of doom.
Visually inspired by Luchino Visconti’s magical film version, this stage adaptation ponders whether the works of an artist can be considered honest if their life is false.
”Carl Knif’s work is like a pastel-colored musical picture book.”
